SECURE YOUR POST-FRAME STRUCTURE WITH THE BEST COLUMN REPAIR PRODUCTS

As impressive, strong, and long-lasting a post-frame structure can be, buildings are sometimes vulnerable to the effects of moisture, weather and the environment. Unfortunately, wood rot can hit your pole barn where it hurts most: its wood columns and frame. Worse yet, it’s impossible to get rid of when wood rot begins. For most property owners, rotting wood columns mean expensive repair and excavation work in the future. However, such doesn’t have to be the case! Instead of outright replacing your columns, your wood posts can be repaired via Anthem Built’s column repair products. With our Column Repair Sleeves, Column Covers and Repair Sockets, you can guarantee the safety and integrity of your post-frame structure.

WHAT CAUSES WOOD COLUMNS TO WEAKEN?

Wood rot is the scourge of the post-frame industry! Wood rot occurs in your post-frame structure’s columns when exposed to moisture and damp conditions. Unfortunately, wetness and moisture are unavoidable for post-frame buildings in Illinois and throughout the Midwest.

If your wood components retain a moisture content of 20% or higher, aren’t given a chance to dry, and stay continually wet for long periods, bacteria and fungi are likely to germinate. Often, the seasons where your wood columns are most at risk of moisture exposure are spring and winter, when rain, ice and snow are common occurrences.

LESS RELIABLE REPAIR OPTIONS

As mentioned, it’s impossible to reverse once wood rot impacts your columns. This means the repair options for wood columns are limited. One such repair method is cutting out the rotted portion of the column and replacing the section with a pre-cast concrete post. While an effective way to reinforce your columns, this repair method often requires extensive (and expensive) construction and excavation.

Another repair solution has contractors affixing laminated wood columns onto rotting columns, transferring the structural load from the decaying to the stable post. Although such a repair is easy to implement, it isn’t as long-lasting, clean, and visually appealing as other repairs.

If rot is severe enough for a column, outright placement might be the only viable “repair” solution. However, column replacement can be time-consuming and costly, especially considering wood rot is pervasive and likely impacting more than one of your columns.
